Breaking the chains of Human Trafficking

Free for Life Scholarship Fund

SCHOLARSHIP

Free for Life scholarships enable young women to attend trade classes  or to pursue their education toward higher learning. FFLI launched this scholarship fund in 2011, enabling young women who have survived so much in their lives, the opportunity to follow their dreams. Our first scholarship was given out in February of 2011 to Jessica (not her real name) a young woman who is now 18. She has lived at the FFLI partner shelter in Nicaragua for over 2 years. Since childhood, she has dreamt of going to beauty school. Her dream is now a reality. The funds she was awarded will go toward transportation, supplies, books, and tuition for her classes. Together, we can grow this program to provide scholarships to the young women we work with to give them every opportunity of a bright future to provide for themselves.

Philosophy of scholarship

college tuitionOur philosophy for the Free for Life International scholarship program is that scholarships will be made available to young women who have been identified as victims of trafficking or are considered to be at a high risk of being trafficked. These scholarships will enable young women to be free to dream and become contributing members of their society through vocational training, higher education or therapeutic programs or classes. Funding will be available for:

About Me

Name: Jessica

Age: 18

Dream: Beauty School

Cost: $1,200

Goal: Jessica’s dream is to one day have her own salon

Graduation: Jessica will graduate from beauty school in the fall of 2011

Her Heart: When asked why she wants to go to beauty school, she said that she wants to be able to help children on the streets that no one is caring for. “I am very happy because I am going to be able to start the beauty school and make my dream come true. I know many times I have misbehaved and I think I don’t deserve this opportunity and unconditional support you give me. For this reason I promise that I will work on being better with my attitudes and put a lot of effort in studying this new course. I have no words to explain how happy I am to Free for Life because I am able to study now and won’t disappoint you. “

This is what Jessica shared when she found out she had been awarded her scholarship.
